Barnaby Marshall is Slaight Music’s Chief Technology Officer, overseeing the company’s stable of web properties and managing its digitally focused investments. He’s worked in media production for over 25 years, beginning in television journalism in the early 90s before shifting to digital in 1996 when he was tapped to run Shift Magazine’s interactive department, a job he held for the next five years. In 2002 he joined the creative team that designed and built Toronto’s Drake Hotel, working on the strategy, design and implementation of key components of the property’s extensive renovation and relaunch, eventually booking and managing the hotel’s downstairs entertainment venue during the first years of operation. He began consulting for Standard Broadcasting’s interactive department in 2006 and joined Slaight Music upon its launch in 2011. Across his career, he’s hired and managed dozens of creative teams and built scores of websites. He’s been a mentor for the Canadian Film Centre’s ideaBOOST accelerator program, has both moderated and presented on many different technology and music panels, while also appearing on television and radio as a media commentator.
